“Magic Gratitude Challenge” Day 7 – How to Deal with Negativity
Today’s challenge is a BIG one, but a fun one! In short… go the entire day WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING NEGATIVE!!! To me, that means without THINKING anything negative, too – or at least catching it when it happens and replacing it with a positive.
Maybe it sounds easy, but do we really notice EVERY word and EVERY thought? As a yoga teacher and practitioner this principle is a big part of mindfulness. In this case though, we are adding an active process of actively choosing our focus, rather than just noticing (as in some types of meditation). This can be a LIFE-CHANGER!
Here are the tasks for today:
1. Write 10 things you are grateful for.
2. Choose one negative situation in your life that you would like to resolve.
3. Write down all of the things you are grateful for about this situation.
4. At the end of your list write down, “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for the perfect resolution!”
5. Challenge yourself to go though the entire day without saying something negative. If you catch yourself making a non-positive comment, immediately say, “But I have to say I am really grateful for _________________.”
6. If you have the book, read the inspiration for Day 7.
7. Before bed, hold your magic rock and say thanks for the best thing that happened today.
In the comment section below, please share your insights and gratitudes related to working with this powerful practice.
1. This task happened to come on a day when some incredibly challenging things are happening, making it extra TOUGH!! But,… I am so grateful for this chance to practice being ONLY POSITIVE even in very challenging situations.
2. I am so happy and grateful for the NEW CHANCES a crisis can bring! The Latin word for crisis means “turning point in a dis-ease!” The Chinese word for opportunity means “danger – opportunity.” This is something to be GRATEFUL for. Not sure if any of you can relate, but I tend to resist change; so sometimes a crisis is a blessing that causes action to move to BETTER things!
3. I am so happy and grateful for all of the knowledge I have gained from a certain, recent situation, as the knowledge is something I can take with me forever to live a better life and avoid pitfalls.
4. I am so happy and grateful for the FRIENDS who have been so kind and supportive to me in a “crisis,” even though most do not know what is happening. They are just that caring that they want to be there for me.
5. I am so happy and grateful that challenges can remind us to be more HUMBLE, and humility to me is STRENGTH and connection to what is REAL. <3
6. I am so happy and grateful to take another breath and BE ALIVE, even if things are difficult at the moment, I LOVE every second, every moment of life and want to savor it ALL.
7. I am so happy and grateful that sometimes challenges show people's REAL character and allow us to weed out the "chaff" in our lives.
8. I am so happy and grateful that my intuition was on the entire time. I felt this situation was wrong, but I made the error of trying to stay in it to help someone. It was the only time in my life I thought of someone as a "frenemy." I chastised myself that I should be more open and accepting. But.. at least the good news is, my gut instinct was right all along. And now I know for the future I should trust that and not feel "guilty" if I feel someone is not up to my standard of business colleague/friend.
9. I am so happy and grateful that, once I get this challenge resolved, I will no longer have to interface with the dishonest business person. Ever!!!! (And that is amazingly happy!)
10. I am so happy and grateful that this challenge happened so I can change course and remember... " I never see failure as failure, but only as an opportunity to change course in my direction!!!" THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
